An Exploration of Cultural Identity in My Post-World War II Japanese American Family

My cultural identity has always been muddled as a fourth generation Japanese American and mixed race woman. It has always been something I wanted to dive deeper into understanding about myself, and I got the chance to explore it through this project. To aid me in my journey, I had my Japanese American family members to fill out a survey I created, asking them about their cultural identities. I’ve used their responses as well as firsthand accounts from my great-grandmother Edna to support my own thoughts around how the discrimination and incarceration of Japanese American people—and my own family—have affected our cultural identities generations later.
